Dr. Armand Feigenbaum was born in 1922 in the United States. Feigenbaum received his bachelor’s degree from Union college and his Masters and PhD from MIT. Feigenbaum served as the Director of Manufacturing Operations for General Electric for several years and during this time he also served as President of the American Society for Quality. Later Feigenbaum became CEO of General Systems Co. which was founded by Armand and his brother Donald. Dr. Feigenbaum’s most notable publication is his book Quality Control: Principles, Practice, and Administration first published in 1951. This landmark book promoted the importance of a holistic approach to quality control to improve the bottom line and customer satisfaction. The book would later be renamed Total Quality Control and is currently in its third edition. Feigenbaum is also credited with the notion of the “hidden plant” and “cost of quality”.
